Joint Quality Improvement and Program Committee Report

CCI Partners 2002-2003

Joint Quality Improvement and Program Committee
Karen Lechter and Robert P. Wise, M.D., Co-Chairs

Program and Quality Improvement Committees joined forces in 2003 to address clinic issues that spanned the range from patient record audits to health literacy. The Program Committee monitors CCI’s compliance with the terms of grants and programs and consults with staff about the scope, nature, and mix of services, to assure they are consistent with CCI’s mission. The Quality Improvement Committee evaluates the care and services provided by CCI and makes recommendations to promote excellent services and responsiveness to patients and staff. Together, the committees consult staff about the nature and quality of services and activities. In 2003, the committees paid particular attention to clinic efforts to prepare for accreditation review by the Joint Commission for Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).

Among the year’s activities are the following:

• Continuous monitoring of preparations for JCAHO accreditation, with particular focus on 10 high-priority standards

• Review of patient and staff satisfaction surveys and task force activities generated by those surveys

• Examination of WIC activities, including a new facility, the annual plan for staff activities, budget issues, and new state initiatives

• Monitored medical and administrative audits

• Review of personnel actions and statistics

• Received reports from the Staff Quality Improvement Committee

• Reviewed staff training, including the Quality Improvement Seminar and the Cultural Competency Workshop

• Approved the annual agency
Performance Improvement plan

• Reviewed audits from outside funding sources

• Reviewed additions and changes to the Policies and Procedures manual

• Discussed health literacy issues and their implications for CCI
