A CCI medical assistant takes a temperature
reading for a patient. Seconds earlier, the patient was weighed,
and gave out a shout she had lost three pounds. Weight management
is a renewed focus for CCI’s health providers, as the nation
struggles with serious overweight and obesity concerns. Specific
goals include increased exercise, diet management, healthy food
choices and portions, and modified cooking techniques. A system
for measuring success is an important component of the plan. Expected
outcomes are weight reduction for children and adults, lower blood
pressure and fewer instances of hypertension, reduced cases of diabetes
and early onset, and an increased sense of physical well-being.
CCI offers classes in weight management, physical activity, and
medical nutrition therapy for patients and WIC participants at risk.
