A class about successful breastfeeding is full
to capacity at CCI, and happy moms display their certificates of
completion proudly. While the national average for breastfeeding
hovers at 46%, CCI boasts the highest rate in the state at 81%.
This year, CCI-WIC hosted the third annual “Shower and Picnic”
for breastfeeding mothers and their children. Education, materials,
and demonstrations comprised the program, then healthy food and
fun were enjoyed by all.

Committee
Karen Lechter, Chair
In 2004, the Program Committee and Performance
Improvement Committee (formerly the Quality Improvement Committee)
met jointly to oversee CCI’s multiple grants and funding programs
as well as the quality of care that CCI provides.
The Performance Improvement Committee evaluates
the care and services provided by CCI, and makes recommendations
to promote excellent services and responsiveness to patients and
staff. In 2004, the committees paid particular attention to CCI’s
efforts in its successful achievement of accreditation by the Joint
Commission for Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).
Highlights of the Program Committees’ work
include:
- Performed a thorough review of the Board’s
By-Laws to ensure compliance with the requirements of the Bureau
of Primary Health Care’s 330 Health Center Program Grant.
- Reviewed provisions of funding contracts to
assure compliance with their terms.
- Discussed new potential sources of funding.
- Reviewed medical record audits by outside funding
sources.
- Provided oversight for CCI-WIC’s very
successful service to record-breaking numbers of mothers, infants,
and children.
