Chairman's Reception Donor Recognition

The Board of Directors provides important leadership to CCI. Three of the 10 members are pictured here at the bi-annual Chairman’s Reception donor recognition event. From the left, Louise Bradford is Secretary and has chaired the “Help the Homeless” Walkathon for the past six years; Joanne Leal, D.D.S., is a U.S. Navy clinic director; and Carlos Coffman is in his seventh year of active volunteer service to the agency. Board members serve a three-year term and can advance to officer and committee chair. Interested members of the community and consumers of CCI services are invited to apply. Performance Improvement and Program Committee
Beth Durham, Chair

This has been a year of real progress in the closely-related areas of Performance Improvement and Programs, thanks to the excellent efforts of staff and the dedicated attention of our committee members. Thanks to you all!

The Performance Improvement Committee’s role is to evaluate the quality of CCI services and to promote improvements that will benefit both patients and staff. The Program Committee monitors CCI’s compliance with the terms of grants and contracts and consults with staff about the scope, nature, location, and mix of services to ensure they are consistent with CCI’s mission. The two groups meet together as a combined body with a common standing agenda that includes discussions of staff provider appointments, reports from the staff’s Performance Improvement Committee, JCAHO-related activities, the staff Safety Committee, program reports (especially internal and external audits), and policy reviews. This structure enables us to work closely together to exchange information and ideas.

On the Performance Improvement side, this year’s accomplishments include a successful dry-run for our JCAHO re-accreditation, which is upcoming in November. This is a complex, all-encompassing effort and kudos are due to all staff for their dedication and hard work. Also noteworthy is the significant expansion of our internal audits, as CCI’s Medical Director and Director of Operations have developed new processes for collecting detailed data about daily operations. Even more important, staff has made significant progress in learning how to analyze and act upon the information gathered through audits, surveys, and reviews. A good example of an improvement achieved through this approach is how we have improved the rate at which WIC clients keep appointments. By reviewing the data about no-shows, studying how we were communicating with clients about appointments, and making a simple change to our notification process, the WIC staff has reduced the no-show rate to a very small percentage.

On the Program Committee side, the highlights of this year include the inauguration of CCI’s 340B program, which through a negotiated federal contract with pharmaceutical companies enables us to provide low-cost prescriptions to uninsured patients; and the upcoming relocation of our WIC location in Wheaton to a more modern facility in Rockville with improved transportation and parking. We’ve also continued working on plans to expand CCI ‘s services to women and to develop capacity in the area of mental health counseling.
