Facts About CCI
The mission of Community Clinic,
Inc. (CCI) is to provide high quality primary and related health
services for medically needy persons, to promote for improved access
to health care services, and to conduct its mission in a non-discriminatory
manner, sensitive to the needs of the community and the dignity
of each individual.
CCI celebrates 34 years of service as a private,
non-profit 501(c)(3), community health center governed by a maximum
25-member volunteer Board of Directors. In 1993, CCI was designated
a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). In 2003, CCI earned
national accreditation by the Joint Commission on Accreditation
of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). CCI staff is diverse, and comprised
of 78 professional, full- and part-time licensed physicians, medical
assistants, nutritionists, managers and trained support personnel.
Bi-lingual staff and licensed medical volunteers contribute to service
delivery.
The largest provider of primary health care to
medically under-served people in Montgomery County, CCI offers two
service programs. In the primary care service, CCI served more than
8,500 indigent, homeless, disabled and uninsured children and adults
this year. Soon to celebrate its 10th year at CCI, the state of
Maryland Women, Infants and Children (WIC) nutrition education and
food supplement program enrolls more than 21,000 pregnant and breast-feeding
women, and children under the age of five. Together, the programs
serve close to 30,000 children and adults who count on CCI for medical
and health-related care.
Primary health services include well, acute, and
chronic care for individuals, including immunizations; and an ob/gyn
practice for women. CCI/WIC offers nutrition counseling and related
services. A well-established referral network for specialty services
assures continuity of patient care. CCI is an active participant
in the federal Health Disparities Collaborative for staff training
programs to benefit patients living with diabetes.
Community Clinic provides services at six locations:
Silver Spring, the Marilyn K. Freeland, R.N., Family Health Center
in Takoma Park, White Flint (WIC services only), the Solomon Health
Center in Gaithersburg, Aspen Hill (WIC only) and Germantown (WIC
only). Hours of operation vary by location and include weekday and
Saturday morning schedules. Health centers are easily accessible
by public transportation and are in close proximity to public and
private support agencies.
Comprehensive program services are supported by
contracts including: U.S. Department of Agriculture, state of Maryland,
Montgomery Cares and Care for Kids (Montgomery County), Health Care
for the Homeless (federal funding and HCH, Inc.), and the City of
Gaithersburg. Reduced fees are accepted from patients who can pay.
Contributions through CCI efforts, its Board of
Directors, 7-Eleven Food Stores, the Combined Federal Campaign,
the Kiwanis Club of North Bethesda, the Fannie Mae Foundation, generous
individuals and others support the agency’s indigent care
program.
Community Clinic, Johns Hopkins Health Care, LLC,
and seven other Maryland community health centers established the
Priority Partners Managed Care Organization, Inc. in 1997, to serve
HealthChoice participants, patients formerly served by the Medicaid
program.
