Community Clinic patients sometimes need the care of specialists to confirm diagnoses or treat special health conditions and diseases. CCI will refer patients needing specialty care to appropriate medical professionals. A well-established network of specialty care is available to CCI providers including Catholic Charities, Project Access, and the National Childrens' Medical Center. Patients in need can also be referred to Montgomery County health services including dental, addiction, STD testing, and other services.

Patients enrolled in Medicaid receive referrals to their managed care organization's panel of specialists for specialty care.

CCI providers are a patient's primary medical provider and manage any additional physicians or specialists involved in a CCI patient's care.
