Breastfeeding Support in the Hospital
WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselors are available in three Montgomery County Hospitals: Washington Adventist, Shady Grove and Holy Cross. The staff will come to visit you after you deliver to provide you with information, assistance and breastfeeding support as you need it.
WIC Appointments in the Hospital
WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselors will complete your Certification appointments in the hospital if you are breastfeeding exclusively or breastfeeding mostly. These contacts are to make WIC support easier for you, so that you can avoid additional visits to the WIC center.

Breastfeeding Rooms
Each WIC center is equipped with a breastfeeding room, glider and staff to assist you with breastfeeding.
We invite you to walk-in at any time for additional breastfeeding support, or to come sit in our breastfeeding room and ask the staff for assistance.
Breastfeeding Support Groups
Breastfeeding support groups are available in each WIC Clinic. Moms are encouraged to bring their babies to these support groups. Support groups are lead by a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor in the WIC center. It is a forum for moms to introduce their babies and discuss the successes and concerns they have with their breastfeeding experience. Suggested infant age for the Breastfeeding Support Group is 2-6 weeks old, though all babies are welcome.
You will be scheduled for the Breastfeeding Support Group after your initial appointment post-delivery.
Breastfeeding Walk-in Hours
In addition to WIC Breastfeeding Support at any time, you, the participant, are welcome to come to Breastfeeding Walk-in hours. These hours vary by clinic. Ask your local WIC center or Breastfeeding Peer Counselor for additional information.
Breastfeeding Assistance by Phone
At any time that assistance may be necessary, please feel free to contact the Breastfeeding Peer Counselors. Each Peer Counselor carries a cell phone to assist you when you need it. If your call is forwarded to voicemail, please leave a message and your call will be returned as soon as possible.
