Healthy Snack Ideas

Quick Snacks:

1. Peel a banana and dip it in yogurt. Roll in crushed cereal and freeze.
2. Spread peanut butter over whole wheat tortilla. Peel a banana and place at the edge of the tortilla. Roll tortilla around banana. Cut in slices, width-wise pinwheels.
3. Spread celery sticks with peanut butter or low-fat cream cheese. Top with raisins. Enjoy your "Ants on a Log"
4. Stuff a whole grain pita pocket with ricotta cheese and Granny Smith apple slices. Add a dash of cinnamon.
5. Spread tomato sauce, cheese and vegetables over a whole grain pita pocket, mini bagel or English muffin for a mini, personal pizza.
6. Mix together ready-to-eat cereal, dried fruit and nuts in a sandwich bag for an on-the-go snack.
7. Smear a scoop of frozen yogurt on two graham crackers and add sliced banana to make a yummy sandwich.
8. Top low-fat vanilla yogurt with crunchy granola and sprinkle with blueberries. To make a parfait, layer yogurt, granola and berries alternately in a clear cup.
9. Microwave a small baked potato. Top with reduced-fat cheddar cheese and salsa.
10. Make snack kabobs. Put cubes of low-fat cheese and grapes on pretzel sticks.
11. Toast a while grain waffle and top with low-fat yogurt and sliced peaches.
12. Spread peanut butter on apple slices.
13. Blend low-fat milk, frozen strawberries and a banana for thirty seconds for a delicious smoothie.
14. Make a mini-sandwich with tuna or egg salad on a dinner-roll
15. Sprinkle grated Monterey Jack cheese over a corn tortilla; fold in half and microwave for twenty seconds. Top with salsa.
16. Toss dried cranberries and chopped walnuts in instant oatmeal.
17. Mix together peanut butter and cornflakes in a bowl. Shape into balls and roll in crushed graham crackers.
18. Microwave a cup of tomato or vegetable soup and enjoy with whole grain crackers.
19. Fill a waffle cone with cut-up fruit and top with low-fat vanilla yogurt.
20. Spread 1 tablespoon of melted margarine/butter on a whole wheat tortilla. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Cut into 32 slices. Bake 15mins, until crispy. Separate slices and serve.

Dip Tricks!

1. Dip baby carrots, cherry tomatoes and cucumber slices in low-fat ranch dressing.
2. Dip strawberries or apple slices in low-fat yogurt.
3. Dip pretzels in mustard.
4. Dip pita chips in hummus.
5. Dip graham crackers in apple sauce.
6. Dip baked tortilla chips in bean dip.
7. Dip animal crackers in low-fat pudding, or coffee flavored yogurt.
8. Dip bread sticks in salsa.
9. Dip granola bar in low-fat yogurt.
10. Dip mini-toaster waffles in cinnamon applesauce.

 

Fruit Salsa

Ingredients:
1 pint fresh strawberries, chopped
1 large banana, peeled & chopped
1 medium apple, chopped
2 kiwi, peeled & chopped
2 Tbps lemon juice
¼ cup sugar
½ tsp cinnamon

Directions:
Combine fruit. Sprinkle with lemon juice, sugar and cinnamon. Refrigerate 30 mins.
Serve with sweet pita chips
